About the Author & the Waverley Novels:
Sir Walter Scott (1771–1832) was a Scottish novelist, poet, and historian whose works shaped the historical novel as we know it. Waverley, first published in 1814, launched what became known as the Waverley Novels, a sweeping series of works blending history, romance, and adventure. Scott’s novels, including Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, and The Heart of Midlothian, brought Scottish history and culture to vivid life and established him as one of the most influential writers of the nineteenth century.
